Face Fear

Job satisfaction surveys taken from CNN to The Conference Board capture declining job satisfaction numbers. More importantly, I see it first hand all too often since I have been in a position to discuss career, personal brand and life decision with an amazing number of diverse people. My observations, critical thinking and passion on the subject are among the main motivations as to why I do what I do. What is generally lacking in the surveys are the real reasons for disenchantment and it is time to take a look.

Maybe it is too simple: FEAR. That is the self sabotage behavior, fear. Well, maybe easier said then done so seek opportunity for support in understanding fear. In many situations large and small, fear holds many back from living life to the fullest. Even the smallest decisions passed over because of fear are opportunities to think and re-think past experiences that cause us not to create new and move forward into the unknown. Facing fear creates opportunities to prepare and learn along the way. In taking control of your brand, consider:

First you have to identify the fear.
Turn and facing fear.
Accepting the energy and power of the emotion to prepare.
Fear is the lack of knowledge – dedicate yourself to learning.
Taking the risk and acting shows courage that inspires others.
Show up.

Stop denying who you are. Take control of your life from your core to embrace the unknown and prepare for change. Imagine control of your own destiny in career, health, finances including insurance and independence from all you are not entitled. Be different – it is not risky to be you and take care of you. Could that minimize fear? Whether it is fear of success or failure, fear of the pink skip or being without healthcare? Think about it.

Imagine the power you have when addressing fear translates to acquiring the right hire, client/customer, partner; you hold out for the best fit in your own search. You are not afraid to ask the questions where others do not want to really know the answer. I know, you want the seat filled or the job now instead of need for the right fit – not letting time address fear and lack of diligence is killing you on the satisfaction front. Imagine broadening the acceptance of fear past career to your life relationships and purchasing decisions. Fit based on who you are vs. fear of being alone or what others think of your acquisitions. Be your brand. Live your brand. Grow your brand.

Are you afraid of taking control?
