Build Your Personal Brand Online
Hands up. How many people create content of some kind online? Whether it is your own blog, LinkedIn, a company blog or popular social networking sites like Facebook, Myspace and a whole host of others -including new online culture changing tools like twitter.

Congratulations if you do because whether you believe it or not, the web is where you will be found, researched and connected. You must be involved in the conversation economy where mindsets are shifting from push to pull marketing methods. Some industries and disciplines already have the attitude that if you are not found online, you must not be accomplishing anything. A recruiter friend told me the web is the first place his team goes to check out a candidate's work or testimonials - so happens it is the first real level of due diligence before the forever important face time. He is not alone. As a matter of fact, every survey I have seen says decisions makers are online sourcing candidates and business contacts 49% to 80% (I think the range is do to industry and discipline or even size of company resources). I.e. higher internet presence or skills required. No recruiting budget = high online sourcing of candidates. No sales support = high internet sourcing...

Okay, so you have a profile on a few websites and may even have your own blog or forums you create or participate on. You are thoughtful of what you say and pictures you share. You are professional and show examples of your work and passion. But if a tree falls in the forest and nobody is around to...you see my point. Being actively sought after is one thing, but do opportunities stumble on you? Will they when you are not looking? Yes.

If/when you are taking the time to create content you must get it out there and organized for consumption...By the way, if you or someone you know are writing and sending ezines and not posting online, change your strategy now. Blog or forum posts with RSS feeds will give you more bang for your expertise - so add online to your strategy. Creating a blog or forum can be free or close to it. Participating on other blogs and forums linking to you is time well spent; especially when you can find your target audience and influencing friends. I am amazed who I have met online and you will too!

I would like to meet you and support your career dreams!

Many of you have passed through, some have posted on or contacted me through my various websites. Recently I added a section to the FREE business and career forum from Your Brand, LLC called "Build Your Personal Brand Online" This is a great place to start or organize your online personal brand strategy. It is free and very simple. Go to www.PersonalBoardofAdvisors.com and scroll down a bit to the "Build Your Personal Brand Online" forum - click the link to get in, find the discipline that best describes you and add your bio, resume or story. Create links to your other content and even attach documents you want to share. To get the most out of the forum, be sure to register and build a signature and profile - it is free and a great way to be found. Finally, update your information ever time you add accomplishments to your career strategy so you are always up to date. Do this with your bio and resume too - every six months for accountability! For an example of what you can do, click on my profile - if you have questions or need help with the forum or widgets like Lijit, feel free to post right in the forum.
